The Metatag module provides the ability to implement structured metadata about a website.

Regarding search engine optimization, the term meta tag typically refers to the meta Description tag that may help improve the rankings and display of a site in search engine results (please note, support for the meta Keywords tag is also provided, but this element isn't really looked at by search engines anymore). The Metatag module provides this as a basic feature set, but also offers several other handy features such as:

• Support for meta tags that allow control of how content appears when shared on social networks such as the Open Graph Protocol from Facebook and Twitter Cards from Twitter
• Google site-verification capabilities
• Full integration with the Token module to provide automated tag capabilities
• Global and per-node scopes
