1. Add Tracking ID and Domain Information

Log in to your Drupal site.

Go to Admin menu > Configuration > System > Google Analytics.

Web Property ID field = paste in your GA tracking number

Domains vertical tab = select the type of domain you're tracking (Single Domain is most likely the option you'll want).

2. Configure Pages Settings

Click on the Pages vertical tab.

Determine what pages you want to track.

The manner in which it's set up by default will probably suffice for you. It excludes administration pages and other editing type of pages.

If there are only a couple of pages you really want to track, switch the radio button to The listed pages only and list out the paths you want to track.

3. Configure Roles Settings

Click on the Roles vertical tab.

The example shows the Google Analytics module set up to only show activity by anonymous users. Think about what your actual goals are. Do you want to track activity by your content providers as well? If so, include them.

4. Configure Links and Downloads Settings

Click on the Links and Downloads tab.

Select all that apply. Chances are, at a minimum, you're going to want the following:

Track clicks on outbound links (these are links going out of your site to somewhere else)

Track clicks on mailto links (these are links that go to email accounts)

Track downloads (clicks on file links) for the following extensions (there are many extensions listed, you can add more or remove ones that are listed here)

5. Configure Messages Settings

Click on the Messages tab.

Select any of these message types that you would like to receive, if any.

6. Configure Search and Advertising Settings

Click on the Search and Advertising vertical tab.

Select any of the options that apply to your site.

7. Configure Privacy Settings

Click on the Privacy vertical tab.

Select the appropriate privacy settings for your site.
