Google Tag Manager - Configure - Go to Google Tag Manager Module

1. Navigate to Google Tag Manager Configuration Screen

Go to Admin Menu > Configuration > System > Google Tag Manager.

2. Get Google Tag Manager ID

The Google Tag Manager screen is fairly straightforward.

If you do not already have the Google Tag Manager ID, click the sign up for GTM link and follow our Create Google Tag Manager Account instructions to get the ID.

3. Add the Container ID

Container ID field = paste in the Google Tag Manager ID.

Click the Save Configuration button.

4. Configuration Confirmation

You will see a confirmation message at the top of the screen informing you that the configs have been saved. You will also be informed that three snippet files were generated.

5. Review Page Paths

Click the Page Paths vertical tab.

  • Add Snippet On Specific Paths option set = All paths except the listed paths is checked.
    • This setting means that the module will work on all paths except the ones that are listed below in the Listed Paths text field.
  • Listed Paths text field = paths that are affected by the Add Snippet option set.

The defaults will probably be good enough, to begin with.

6. Review User Roles

Click the User Roles vertical tab.

  • Add Snippet For Specific Roles option set = All roles except the selected roles is checked.
    • This setting means that the module will work on all roles except the ones that are selected below in the Listed Roles option set.
  • Selected Roles option set = roles that are affected by the Add Snippet option set.

The defaults will probably be good enough, to begin with.

7. Review Response Statuses

Click the Response Status vertical tab.

  • Add Snippet For Specific Statuses option set = All statuses except the listed statuses is checked.
    • This setting means that the module will work on all statuses except the ones that are listed below in the Listed Statuses text field.
  • Listed Statuses text field = statuses that are affected by the Add Snippet option set.

The defaults will probably be good enough, to begin with.

8. Review Advanced Tab

Click the Advanced vertical tab.

  • Compact the JavaScript Snippet checkbox = checked
    • JavaScript generated by this module will be compacted to remove unnecessary whitespace - recommended on production sites.
  • Include the Snippet as a File checkbox = checked.
    • JavaScript snippets will be included as a file, which is recommended. Otherwise the snippets will be inserted into each page.
  • Show Debug Output checkbox = unchecked.
    • Used for debugging purposes. Should only be used in a development environment.
  • Data Layer text box = default is dataLayer, leave this as is.
  • Add Classes to the Data Layer checkbox = unchecked.
    • If checked, fields for White-listed and Black-listed classes will appear.
  • Include an Environment checkbox = unchecked.
    • This requires an Environment ID from your Google Tag Manager account. This should only be used in development cases.

The defaults will probably be good enough, to begin with.
