OSU Drupal 7 has a wide range of users and user types.
Many of our users are focused on creating and delivering great text, image, and video content. These folks are commonly known as Authors here at OSU. They might be part of a group within a bigger site. If this is the case, they're known as Group Authors. This group of people are a big mixture of students, faculty, staff, and sometimes even affiliated people from other organizations.
Some of our users do a lot of work with content and they also manage the flow of people on a site or within a group in a larger site. They take on something of an editorial or managerial role. These folks are known as Site Managers at the site level, and as Group Managers at the group level. These people are often coordinators, or perhaps managers, of their organizations.
A few of our users work less with content and more with the structure that the content fits in. These people configure sites and create tools for other site users to work with, to help make their jobs a bit easier, and maybe even more fun. These people are known as Architects. Most architects here at OSU are more specialized, professional communicators or IT personnel. Occasionally we'll find some student workers who assume this role - they tend to usually be computer science, business information systems, or digital media students.
And, finally, we have our people who do the programming and server maintenance. When they come in to visit a site, it's usually as a super administrator, and, most likely, they're testing or fixing something. These people are Administrators. This is a highly specialized technical role that is restricted to Digital Experience employees and the student developers they oversee.
All of these people, with all of these varying categories and levels of skill, work together every day to build and refine the complex, dynamic world of oregonstate.edu.
