Crossref is a not-for-profit membership organization that is focused on bettering scholarly communications.

The organization works toward their goals on a few different fronts:

  • Community outreach
  • Working with metadata and information structure to help reveal relationships between research outputs
  • Operating a shared, open infrastructure that is ever evolving and governed by the community
  • Experiments with technology to solve members' problems
  • Creates tools and services to enable connections and give context

Crossref maintains a very large database of scholarly publications that use a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) reference number.

A DOI is a unique alphanumeric string assigned by the International DOI Foundation to identify content and provide a persistent link to its location on the internet. It is the registration authority for ISO standard 26324 for the DOI system.

You can use that DOI number to automatically add Biblio content into your site.

The configuration is simple, but first you need to register with Crossref.

Once you've registered, just do the following:

1. Go to Crossref Biblio Preferences

Go to Admin menu > Configuration > Content Authoring > Biblio Settings.

Click on the CrossRef Login Information tab.

2. Add Account ID

CrossRef OpenURL Account ID field = the email that you used when registering with CrossRef

Click the Save Configuration button.

Please note that individuals can also add their own personal Crossref accounts by going to User > Edit > Account > Biblio settings fieldset > CrossRef Login Information fieldset.
