File fields are widgets that can be used in an entity to handle files.

A site's architect can configure these fields to work and display in a variety of different ways.

A site's architect can also specifically configure how the Media Browser integrates with the file or image field.

As an example, a field that only works with an embedded video, such as the Video field in our Video content type, doesn't need an upload tab because OSU Drupal 7 does not accommodate video uploads.

It's quite possible that a user will encounter many different configurations when the Media Browser is used with a file or image field.
