1. Add Image Field

On the Manage Fields tab:

Add New Field Section

Label field = Enter the name of your new field. Note that a machine name is automatically generated from what you type in this field. If you wish to edit the machine name, click its corresponding Edit link (characters in this field must be all lowercase, alpha-numeric only).

Type of Data to Store select field = select Image.

Form Element to Edit the Data select field = the only option for this widget is a Media Browser.

Click the Save button.

2. Image Field Field Settings

You will be redirected to the Field Settings tab.

Upload Destination radio button = Public files (this will be your choice most of the time).

Default Image upload field = if you would like to create a default image, just upload your chosen image here.

Click the Save Field Settings button.

3. Other Field Configurations

You'll be redirected back to the field's Edit tab.

Here you'll have some basic settings regarding the appearance and quantity of this field.

Label field = this can be changed at any time.

Required Field checkbox = if this is a field that must be filled out, check this box.

Help Text text area field = enter optional help text here, if desired.

Enabled Browser Plugins checkboxes = these are the different tabs that will be available to your users to access media.

Allowed File Types checkboxes = this will restrict the type of media your user can upload into the field.

Allowed URI Schemes checkboxes = default is Public Files. This will probably work for most cases.

Button Text that Activates Linkit Modal text field = for use with Linkit. This allows you to change the button text.

Default Image upload field = this is the same field from the Field Settings tab.

Field Template select field = provides integration with Display Suite.

Show Button for Inserting Files Into WYSIWYG Editor checkbox = unchecked by default - we already show this button.

Allowed File Extensions for Uploaded Files text field = default is png, gif, jpg, jpeg.

Enable File (Field) Paths checkbox = toggles the File (Field) Path Settings. These settings will allow you to configure automated file names and create tokenized file paths.

Create Redirect checkbox = will automatically create a redirect if the filename is changed.

Retroactive Update checkbox = will update existing filenames within the system. Use this with extreme caution and NOT on production sites.

Active Updating checkbox = actively updates and moves files per configured settings.

Field Template select field = provides integration with Display Suite.

Maximum Image Resolution text fields = the biggest display size to allow. You can leave blank, if desired.

Minimum Image Resolution text fields = the smallest display size to allow. You can leave blank, if desired.

Maximum Upload Size text field = the biggest file size to allow.

Number of Values select field = whether to allow multiple values or not. Default is 1.

Upload Destination radio button = Public is default. Setting this to private will keep the image from displaying to anonymous users.

Default Image upload field = this is the same field as in the Field Settings tab.

Click the Save Settings button.

4. Position Image Field

You'll be redirected back out to the Manage Fields tab.

You can position your field as desired by grabbing the field's mover handle, at the left of the field title, with your mouse. Drag it up or down as desired.

Click the Save button.

5. Open Media Browser

Go to the content type that has this field on it and edit or create a new node.

Locate your field within the submission form.

Hover on the Browse button.

6. Upload or Select Image

To upload an image, go to the Upload tab.

To select an image, go to the Library or My Media tabs.

Once an image is uploaded or selected, click the Submit button.

Scroll down and click the Save button.

The Image Field will display.
