1. Go to Patterns Tab

From inside of the URL alias environment, click the Patterns tab.

2. Add a Pathauto Pattern

Depending on what modules you have installed in your site you may or may not find pre-existing patterns in your pattern list.

We're going to add a new one.

Click the Add Pathauto Pattern button.

3. Choose the Pattern Type

Pattern Type select box = Content.

A collection of content-specific fields will appear.

4. Open Token List

Click the Browse Available Tokens link.

An Available Tokens box will appear.

5. Add Parents Token

Click into the Path Pattern field and then, in the Available Tokens box:

Go to Nodes > Book > Parents.

Click on the Joined Path token.

You'll see the token appear in the Path Pattern field.

6. Add Title Token

Scroll further down in the Available Tokens box to the Title token.

Click in the Path Pattern field, put a forward slash at the end of the Parents token, then click on the Title token in the Available Tokens box.

After the Title token is entered into the Path Pattern field, close the Available Tokens box by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the box.

7. Apply Token Pattern to a Content Type

We're using a Book token here, so we need to apply it to a content type that uses the Book module to establish hierarchy.

In the Content Type options, check Page (which is our modified Book page content type).

Label text field = enter an administrative name for this pattern.

Click the Save button.

8. Pathauto Pattern Added

You'll be redirected back to the Pattern tab.

The new pattern will display in the list.
