When thinking of Drupal, most people probably think of content.
It's people who build that content, however.
Some sites here at OSU are very small and may only have one or two site workers. Others, however, are huge with hundreds of users at varying levels of expertise.
To give full access to all of these users on a large site would be pretty reckless.
The way we manage all of the different users, their different access needs, and their different experience levels, is to establish and apply Roles. Each role has a different set of Permissions associated with it. These Permissions are a collection of activities that a role is allowed to do on a site.
